The first ever Ominous Comma Bad Idea of the Week award goes to the Tennessee State Legislature for their enthusiasm to allow concealed firearms into bars and restaurants.
It’s just hard to imagine any recipe that starts with “Add one part firearms to two parts alcohol…” that doesn’t somehow end with “…serve chilled at your favorite morgue.”
What’s your take?
Is the inebriated ignition of projectiles an inalienable right or a pub-brawling public hazard?

Well, you have to admit all that bad karaoke-ing would clear up pretty quick.
-Heck, maybe they could rent firearms. $20 a bullet. That sort of thing.
As much as I could get behind a special hunting season for bad singers, your painful karaoke example just restates the question:
At what point do individuals pursuing their individual happinesses (and the occasional correct note) become a hazard to the greater public?
The NRA is has a very powerful lobbying department. They have a large stake in determining presidential elections, what more can be said.
But I have to think that even they wouldn’t want to be shot by a drunken hothead in the middle of dinner. I mean, how would you calculate a tip for that?
I don’t know how times while drunk I’ve felt like doing a Yosemite Sam impression. I can’t believe you want to take that away from me Brent….
I don’t want to take anything from you Alex, including recently fired projectiles.
It’s not you, I’m just stubbornly independent that way.
Strange as it sounds I actually support the measure.
I have had CC permit for over 10 years and know from experience and statistics that gun crime from CC permit holders is so rare it is almost non existent.
The point of the law is so that I can go to Applebee’s or any other eating establishment (with a bar) and not be forced to leave my weapon unattended in the car. The safest place for my weapon to be is on me. If some Nimrod decides to start capping innocent people for the fun of it (as in V-Tech) I might be able to stop him.
For the record, I and most like me do not go to places where we think we might need a gun in the first place. This leaves out those places in town where the locals do not feel compelled to get their permit, nor have any respect for any law regarding where they can carry a gun or shoot someone.
What this means is. The bad guys don’t have a permit and they don’t care about the law.
(hence the term bad guy)
(I’m not a member of the NRA either)
In any event, all an establishment has to do is post a sign (not unlike the sign that was posted before the law changed) If they do, then, the only guns in the bar will be the ones the lawless bring in and they will continue to do what they have always done

As usual, you make a good point John.
If you need me, I’ll be reexamining my premise.
